SIMON'S KITCHEN FlNAL UPDATE!!!

Getting there! Although let down by plasterers who said "sorry only can do Mondays" so they were told forget it, and delays with the electric’s being finished, things are now taking shape and now the ceiling has be done and the walls skimmed. The chaps doing the ceiling finished about 1am!!! Dedication to the cause! However this put everything back by two weeks and means it will not be finished till mid March now which is disappointing but okay.

I have decided to go not for black marble effect worktops but for slate! Managing to find a local supplier in Bryncir who can supply 900ml square, 900ml x 600ml tiles the option to use the 600 x 900 tiles as work tops was chosen, the 900ml square will hopefully go on the floor boarded by 300ml x 300ml blue/black slate tiles. This goes back to the original desire to use slate somewhere and somehow. The tiles are being delivered as are the clear glass bricks and for effect, some blue cobalt glass blocks.

Much has happened since I started this piece, the units are pretty much in place, the worktops are on, not sealed yet, and the cooker not ordered yet. In all it is so different with the lights in place, but work has come to a halt for a month as Wes the designer has gone to South Africa for a month, so the eye level glass cupboards, the breakfast bar with glass brick legs and slate top has to be built, and the alcove for the wine rack to be finished, I will now have to start drinking wine!!

May Update

This is the latest photo, which does look a little better than the last one!

Well, now I'm just about finished I'm very pleased, it has ended up as I had envisaged, and looks better than I could have hoped.

It has been an interesting project and has sewn some seeds of thought for the future improvements I am thinking of.

If possible the next project will be the front garden with an idea of "concrete boxes" flowing in to one another with different sounds, involving pebbles and copper pipes. The in the back garden I have thought about a large deck which has a view over Pensarn Harbour – we will see!
